Dave Shanahan

Dave Shanahan is a distinguished figure in Long Island football, having served as the head coach at Elwood/John Glenn High School for 35+ years. Under his leadership, the team secured multiple conference championships and playoff appearances, reflecting his strategic acumen and commitment to player development. An alumnus of Sachem High School, Dave was an All-County player and part of the esteemed 1987 team awarded the Rutgers Trophy. His contributions to the sport have been recognized with inductions into both the C.W. Post Athletics Hall of Fame and the Suffolk Sports Hall of Fame.

Kyle Shanahan is a certified Health and Physical Education teacher at Bethpage High School and the head coach of the Girls Varsity Flag Football team. Since launching the program in 2023, Coach Shanahan has helped build one of Long Island’s emerging flag football teams, guiding them to a playoff appearance in their inaugural season. His coaching emphasizes fundamentals, teamwork, and character, and he is passionate about using sport as a platform to empower young women. In the classroom and on the field, Coach Shanahan is committed to developing confident, capable student-athletes.

As the head coach at John Glenn High School, he has played a key role in developing competitive, confident athletes through his positive and disciplined approach.

At Long Island Rush, Coach Ash is committed to growing the game of girls flag football and creating opportunities for players across the region. His focus on fundamentals, leadership, and teamwork helps athletes elevate their performance while learning valuable life skills.
